Where to Find Subsidy Housing

Achieving your dreams of homeownership can be tough when you’re in the emerging middle class – that’s the bracket between the middle class (earning more than R22,000 per month) and the lower income class (earning less than R3,000 per month). You can’t get a bond from the bank, but you can’t get free housing, either. This is where FSH (First Home Finance), formerly known as FLISP (Finance Linked Individual Subsidy Programme) steps in. The government has initiated a program for the emerging middle class that aims to subsidise their bonds.

You can achieve your dreams of being a homeowner with the government’s help. They’ll give you a grant, or subsidy, that you’ll never have to pay back to bridge the gap between the lower and upper middle class and boost the housing market.

Depending on how much you earn, you could receive up to almost R170,000 that you can use for your house’s deposit, transfer and bond registration costs, or to reduce your bond amount.
