Qualifying for FLISP: What to Know
FLISP, or the Finance Linked Individual Subsidy Programme, has had a significant impact on South Africa’s housing market. Thousands of families who would have previously been unable to buy a home can now apply for a housing grant specifically designed for the GAP market. You can use FLISP to buy a house with cash, a loan, or a pension as long as you have a signed OTP. The first steps? Check if you meet the qualifying criteria, outlined below:
- Earn a combined monthly income between R3,500 and R22,000
- Be a South African citizen or permanent resident
- You must be 18 years or older to apply
- Be married, cohabiting, or single with financial dependants
- You cannot apply if you have owned a residential property before, except for a serviced stand with a Title Deed already in your name.
- You cannot apply if you have previously received a housing subsidy that gave you ownership, leasehold, or a deed of grant.

Using FLISP: Becoming a Homeowner
At FirstStep Housing, we walk hand in hand with you throughout your FLISP journey. From assisting with and submitting your application to following up and helping secure the funds. Get free government money for a house that you do not have to pay back. Do you need help finding the perfect property and getting your offer to purchase in place before applying for FLISP? Once you are approved for the FLISP housing grant, you will probably wait between 3 and 4 months for the money to be paid out. During this time, start planning the exciting next steps of your life and what the future holds.
