Assisted Many Families with Government Housing Solutions

Becoming a homeowner in South Africa is possible, even on a low budget. The FLISP housing subsidy makes a massive difference to financially-limited families across the country who pursue homeownership. At FirstStep Housing, we have assisted many families with government housing solutions that work for them. It is not about how much you have, but about whether you qualify for FLISP.

To start with, let us define FLISP. Otherwise known as First Home Finance (FHF), FLISP is a grant that helps lower to middle-income earners in South Africa afford their first home purchase. You can use FLISP to buy a house with cash, a loan, or pension, making it much easier to qualify and improve your family’s quality of life. Since it is a grant and not a loan, you do not have to repay any of the FLISP subsidy funds.

Opening Doors with FLISP:

At FirstStep Housing, our goal is to empower the GAP market in their FLISP applications for the best possible outcomes. Like anything new, applying for a government housing subsidy can be confusing and stressful. It does not have to be a difficult experience – our team have assisted many families with government housing subsidies.

Let FirstStep Housing assist you in submitting your FLISP application. We can also review FLISP-compliant bonds on your behalf and conduct the necessary follow-ups to fast-track the approval process. Unsure if you qualify for this subsidy? The FLISP qualifying criteria outline who is eligible for this grant, and we can answer any questions you may have.

Who Can Apply for FLISP?

Most South Africans do not earn enough, even when combining household incomes, to afford a traditional bank home loan. FLISP is there to help the qualifying individuals own a home and create structure in their families’ lives and futures. To apply for FLISP, you must:

  • Earn a monthly household income of between R3,500 and R22,000
  • Be a South African citizen/permanent resident
  • Be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into contracts
  • Be married, cohabiting, or single with financial dependants
  • Never have owned residential property before, except for a serviced stand with a Title Deed already in your name.
  • Never have received any housing subsidy that gave you ownership, leasehold, or a deed of grant.

What is Needed to Apply for FLISP?

There is specific documentation you need to have ready before we can help you apply for FLISP. Additionally, you must already have an Offer to Purchase (OTP) in place for the home you intend to buy, and be able to share the details with our team. We will also need:

  • Identity Documents for each prospective buyer
  • Three months’ recent payslips for all prospective buyers
  • Birth certificates for all minor dependants that reside in your household
  • Marriage certificate, if applicable
  • Divorce order and settlement agreement, if applicable
